At the age of 47, Fermin Capote left everything and everyone he had ever known to make a better life for his family. He came to America, a place where he didn't know the language or the customs but what he did know was himself, with hard work and persistence he thrived.

It was 1968 in Brooklyn, NY. and Fermin Capote had just arrived from Cuba, where he had served in the military for over 20 years and where he learned the trade that would prove to be the family business for the next 50 years.

With a perfectly pressed collard shirt and a family to feed, he quickly secured himself a job with a well-known dry cleaning veteran, and eventually took over operations. The shop became training ground for his young sons George and Frank “Al” and the place where his wife Mirta could put her expert tailoring skills to use.

Fermin decided to relocate his family to Southern California where the family thrived and owned and operated a dozen stores in and around the Los Angeles area. This would be the after school hang out for his youngest son David, where he followed in the family tradition.

The family made the move to Tampa in 1989, setting up shop in the old National Cleaners storefront on Kennedy Blvd, proudly hanging the name Capote on the building. In the early 90’s they operated several locations around the South Tampa area. Today their Kennedy and Bayshore stores are their main plants, where customers come for the convenient location and stay for the quality of dry cleaning, competitive pricing and feel good customer service that only comes from a family run business. Our goal is to maintain that personal service that has been lost in today’s automated online world due to absentee and multiple store owners.  “Our customers know us and we know them”.

Today you can find sons Frank and David at the Kennedy store where mom still does most of the alterations mostly because she just doesn’t trust anyone else to do it. and David handles the pick up and delivery services. George and his wife Lucy operate the Bayshore plant with their children Crystal and Michael continuing on the family Business.
